Boxing Betting – Unbeaten Mares To Be Tested Against Agbeko

The Showtime Bantamweight Tournament concludes on August 13th at the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, as finalists Abner Mares (1.667*) and Joseph Agbeko (4.200*) fight for the title.

The older Agbeko made his way to the final after dominating Yonnhy Perez over 12 rounds when they met last December, while Mares made it to the final on the heels of a narrow victory over Vic Darchinyan.

This fight was originally penned for April; however Agbeko was forced to withdraw during fight week when he was troubled by a sudden onset of sciatica after an intensive training camp and long flight.

31-year old Agbeko’s (28-2, 22 KOs) career has been full of ups and downs since he turned pro in 1998.

His win over the talented Luis Perez showed his worth, but his 2009 win over a peaking Vic Darchinyan served notice that he was a true contender.

When focused, Agbeko is an outstanding and intelligent boxer. The Ghanaian is strong physically, and possesses an armoury of skills that can make life hard on his opponents.

His opponent Abner Mares (21-0, 13 KOs) struggled in his last fight against Vic Darchinyan, but won to keep his undefeated record.

At 25, Mares, has fantastic natural ability coupled with a strong desire to get him over the finish line. A troubled upbringing, boxing was used as his vehicle to improve his life.

Against Darchinyan, he showed the necessary roughness to prevail in the wars he is bound to wage in this demanding weight class.

Agbeko is strong, solid, and experienced, but Mares will be looking to counter that with superior energy, speed, and youth. It should be an appealing and fiercely contested fight.
