Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers (September 2nd)

The Tigers (1.488*) send their 20-game winner to the mound at home on Friday night, as they open up an important three-game set against the division-rival White Sox (2.920*).

Justin Verlander (20-5, 2.38 ERA) will be gunning for win No. 21 of the season on Friday, with the right-hander having won each of his eight most recent outings.

Verlander's last loss, though, came against the White Sox on July 15; he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings.

John Danks (6-9, 3.63 ERA) gets the tall task of facing Verlander on Friday - but at least he’s coming off a stellar outing against the Mariners, where he picked up nine shutout innings.

Chicago White Sox (2.920*), Detroit Tigers (1.488*)

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Francisco Giants (September 3rd)

Tim Lincecum (12-11, 2.58 ERA) heads to the hill at home for the Giants (1.621*) on Saturday as they play the second game of their set against the Diamondbacks (2.510*).

Right-hander Lincecum will be looking for some revenge after he was beaten by the Diamondbacks on August 2, allowing two runs on three hits over seven innings.

Arizona counter with Ian Kennedy (17-4, 3.03 ERA) in Saturday's game, and he's bolstered his victory total by winning nine of his 10 most recent mound trips.

Kennedy picked up a win in San Francisco back on August 1, holding the Giants to two runs on six hits over eight innings, while fanning seven in that contest.

Arizona Diamondbacks (2.510*), San Francisco Giants (1.621*)

Philadelphia Phillies at Florida Marlins (September 4th)

Fresh from a shutout performance, Roy Halladay gets the ball for the Phillies on Sunday afternoon as they close out their three-game set against the Marlins.

Halladay (16-5, 2.47 ERA) blanked the Reds on two hits in seven innings pitched last time out to improve his record to 6-2 with two no-decisions in his last 10 starts.

Anibal Sanchez (7-7, 3.97 ERA) is the Marlins' probable starter for Sunday, coming from a loss by the Mets in his last start (two runs in his six innings pitched).

The right-hander last faced the Phillies on July 6 at home, surrendering five runs on six hits over four innings of work in a no-decision; Florida ended up winning that game 7-6.

    Round-Up

The White Sox and Tigers close out their series on Sunday with a strong projected pitching matchup – Mark Buehrle for Chicago and Max Scherzer for Detroit.

Left-hander Buehrle is 11-6 with a 3.05 ERA on the season and has won five of his last eight mound trips, while right-hander Scherzer sits at 13-8 with a 4.52 ERA.

Also on Sunday, the Dodgers travel to Atlanta, with Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw (17-5, 2.45 ERA) heading to the hill, likely vs. Atlanta's Randall Delgado (0-1, 3.60 ERA).
